Jane Iredale

My August giveaway winnings are still slowly trickling in. Yesterday I received this.

It came in the cutest wrapping and even had my favorite, a sprig of lavender.
Cheek and Lipstain? I wondered what color it was and when I opened it I found this.

Umm kinda light isn't it?! I know I'm pretty fair skinned, but there's no way this color is showing up on me! lol or so I thought. I put it on my lips anyway since I figured it would be like clear lipbalm. To my amazement, it turned into this light pink color on my lips!

before:

After:

So of course here I am like woahhh this is soo cool! I go to look up the product on Jane Irelands website and it says,

(You can check it out here. )

A lip and cheek stain that provides long-lasting, custom color to lips and cheeks.
Features and Benefits:

• Multipurpose stain uses all natural ingredients to enhance your natural coloring.
• Non-drying, long-lasting, all natural stain adjusts to your own chemistry for an irresistible pink shade that will flatter your skin's undertone.

It did compliment me well, and I love that there's no guess work, no worrying if this lip gloss or blush goes with your skin tone or not! I haven't tried it on my cheeks yet, but I'm thinking when I go to Dallas for the weekends this is going to replace my blush and gloss I bring so my makeup bag will be a lot smaller :)

Anyway I thought this is would be an awesome product for you guys to try if you like lighter makeup.

*I wasn't perked or paid to write this, I honestly just think it's a super cool product! :)

The Fishtail Braid

I've been seeing tons of braids everywhere!

Well my "go to" braid is the fishtail. It's sophisticated and easy to do when I'm going out on walks with Miniboss / running errands and I don't want to look like a hot mess. It's one step up from the boring ponytail and it looks like I put in effort without having to really do much.

I pinned a great tutorial here for those of you who don't know how to do one. Except I don't snip the band at the top, I just move it to the bottom and use it to tie my braid :)

Tips for the home: Snow Candles

Wanna know how I made my snow candles from yesterday?

Grab a bunch of empty mason jars and other various glasses.
Fill with EPSOM SALT.
Place tea light in middle.
Bury it a little in the salt.
Light and enjoy :)

Is it too early?

This weekend I finally got around to spray painting the shelves above the desks white. I tried the new Krylon Dual, which is a paint and a primer in one. I liked it a lot! The coverage was a little thin at first but it worked out great in the end. I ended up using two whole cans for 3 pieces of 1x10x48 pieces of wood (which are the shelve measurements).

After I got the shelves back up and in place, I was thinking of how I should decorate them..I was putting office things up like my magazine files, and photo boxes, and then when I went into the storage room to dig out more things, I found a big bag of Christmas decor...and then this happened...

YEAAA I KNOW! IT'S NOVEMBER LADY! Some Christmas stuff snuck onto the shelves!

I don't know what happened...I blame it on all the Christmas decor I saw while I was at target yesterday.

Throw back post: A Dressers Second Chance

At the beginning of summer before I had my dad's truck and the beginning of my furniture craze, I found a dresser with no drawers right outside my apt at the trash bin. I told my husband omggg I have to take it in!! He thinks I'm crazy because I want a dresser with NO DRAWERS BY THE TRASH! lol. Does sound crazy hehe. But I hauled it up the stairs and into my home.

Here's the sad dresser with no drawers

I told my husband I'd find a use for it, and if not, we could always bring it back to the trash on the corner right?! So anyway, fast forward..I decided I hated our perfectly good TV stand and swapped it out for the dresser with no drawers!

I dragged it out, taped and painted it, and sewed some curtains and installed a simple curtain rod. You'll notice the tv is already on top of the dresser before I painted because I left the top brown so it would be two toned.

and here it is now :)

I put all the dvd player, dvds, cds, printer, and all that junk in the cubby holes! & I had extra room and used one of lexi's diaperboxes and modpodge some paper on it to hold wires and cords!

This project cost me 1 dollar for the curtains I got at an estate sale, and 5 dollars for the curtain rod! :) I think it goes well with my antique couches :)

Happy November

It's the first day of the Douangphilas favorite month! We love the weather, time with family, food, and it's our Anniversary month!

(PS. Miniboss didn't get to go trick or treating last night..she's running a fever. :( We hope it's because of teething and not the flu or something else.)

A Thumb Tack Project

I got lots of stuff done while I had time this weekend, Novembers supposed to be a very busy month for us so I wanted to get some small cute projects I had in mind out of the way.

I had this amazing idea to do "MR. & MRS." for the back of our black IKEA desk chairs after i pinned this from my Pinterest. But I didn't want to ruin the chairs if my idea didn't pan out so I decided to try it out on Minibosses little chairs to see how I'd like it before I ruined our good stuff lol.

Here's what her table and chairs look like.

I designed this on Photoshop.

Miniboss has two small chairs from IKEA for her art table and since I only have one kid, the second one will be & GUEST. Heheh :) But if you have two little ones you could do both their names!

I printed it out, cut them up, and taped them to the back of her chairs.

I used plain ol thumbtacks I got at Walmart for .97 each. I ended up using almost 2 whole packs for this little project.

I marked out how wide the thumbtacks were so they wouldn't overlap on the letters, then i took a thumbtack to press down on the marks to leave an indentation. Like so...

Then I took off the sign. It'll look like this.

Then I took the thumbtacks and push them in the holes as far as I could, and used a hammer to hammer them in the rest of the way. Some got bent, some broke, some hurt my thumbs lol. It was harder then I thought it was going to be. The Thumbtacks didn't all line up like they were supposed to lol. Doh'!

At first I was like crap, this is horrible it's not working. But then as I got a couple of letters done, it was looking better and better even though some thumbtacks were all crooked.

You can see it's not perfect at all!!.... But it's grown on me now and I LOVE IT!!!

I was going to paint over her little table and chairs if I didn't like the thumbtacks..but I love the way it is now and decided I'm not going to paint over all her crayon and marker marks. It's her things, she should have some creative say :)

I also realized after I did her name that the "&" sign was going to be too hard to do with thumbtacks so I just took a sharpie and hand drew it on the chair.

I'm glad I took the time to do this on Miniboss's chairs first! It turned out super cute, but I also realized that I'm not going to be able to get the writing perfect for our chairs so I'm not going to do them for us. I guess I could always use upholstery tacks and maybe those are stronger? Hmmm.. I'll keep that thought in the back of mind :)

Butterflies

The wall above the tv is completely naked and I already have too many picture frames up so I added a simple wall art of butterflies.

I used pins to tack them to the wall, but I'm sure you could use tape or scrapbook dots if you don't want that many holes in your walls. I just got a great deal on the pins at Target so I used them instead.

I printed out this Butterflies PDF and colored them in in Photoshop to get the black color and printed them from my printer.

This project cost me .30 cents for the pins. Simple and easy, it just took some time to cut them out by hand. But they are so cute and they flap their wings a little when the fan is on or we have the windows open!

MADE has this same idea but she uses bats for Halloween! I've had my butterflies up since my sister visited us though but never got around to posting them. Oops hehe. Guess great minds think alike!

And yes, that is Carebears on the tv lol. Just being real when there's a kid in the house :)

Also I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the new followers of our little blog! We're happy to have made new friends this past month :)

Walking Dead

Because we loveee zombies around here, I turned the baby and I into ZOMBIES!

I'm not the only one obsessed with Zombies right? Usually I'm not the zombie though, I always imagine that I'd be a survivor...but for Halloween sake, we'll be zombies. I asked the hubby if he wanted to be a zombie but he says he'd rather be a ninja lol. I guess he doesn't realize that when the world ends, my extensive knowledge of zombies will save us.

Rule 1: Cardio: This one comes up in Zombieland and clearly makes alot of sense. How many fat people do you see at the end of the world when its zombies doing the ending?

Rule 2: Beware of Bathrooms: Really not just bathrooms any good apocalyptic zombie survivor should know better then going into a bathroom, small closet or any other small room with only one way in or out. Only thing stupider to go into then a bathroom is a movie theater. Lots of places to run around before you get eaten.

Rule 3: Seatbelts: Its a safe bet unless your a complete dumb dumb ( see rule #7 ) your not going to be hoofing it on foot in the event of a zombie outbreak. So when travelling on four wheels wear your seat belt. Nothing worse then finding yourself ejected out of your car into the loving and oh so hungry arms of zombies.

Rule 4: Doubletap: Carrying a gun is a great idea but it should never be your primary weapon. When you do end up using it for that last minute 'oh s***' moment remember to double tap. Its an emergency and thats why your using it and not your cricket bat so why skimp? One bullet more in the head will go a long way to ensuring your survival.

Rule 5: No Attachments: This is a tough one but you can not have attachments. If you got kids or a wife your less likely to survive then the gal or guy who has no attachments and nothing slowing him or her down. Or worse yet making bonehead decisions like 'going back into the room'

Rule 6: Travel in a Group: The best way to increase your odds of survival when travelling in a zombie outbreak is to make sure your a traveling buffet. Going it alone gives the zombies no choices but to eat you. Going it with the old man with the limp, the little kid who cant run and the middle aged woman with the plastic leg gives the zombies more options and you better odds you can run away faster then they can.

Rule 7: Keep the Dumb Dumbs Close at Hand: One of the most sure fire ways of making sure you survive is keeping the less intelligent as close at hand as possible. When you find somebody who asks you 'Whats going on? What Happened? Those are the ones you want with you. That way when the zombies come they are likely too dumb to realize its not Amway calling and run.

Rule 8: Kill with Efficiency: Its not about pretty its about efficiency. Alot of folks run for the gun cabinet where as the truly savvy go looking for the most blunt and effective way to destroy the brain. That can be anything from a baseball bat... to a toilet lid! Kill with Efficiency... dont use weapons that need something to work and use weapons you can swing over and over and over again. You dont tend to run into 1 zombie at a time.

Rule 9: Guns Are for Hunting, Not for Zombie Killing: This one is simple. Guns need bullets. When your running who has time to stop for bullets? Keeping a shotgun with buckshot on hand is important but only when your pinned in and need a quick getaway. Its not a proper means for killing zombies as they run out of ammo and need reloading. Remember a Cricket Bat, or Toilet Lid do not need loading!

Rule 10: Be Quiet: Its the end of the world as you know it so try to avoid squeeling like a 4th grade school girl and perhaps invest in some good sneakers. Nobody said you have to kill all the zombies and there is certainly no shame in sneaking around and surviving versus tearing around like a madman and ending up being an undead happy meal.

Gotta love Zombieland! BTW who's excited for Halloween and Sundays new episode of Walking dead?! :)

Easy Artwork

It's rainy and cold out which means no park today..Guess that means water coloring! Miniboss is playing with her waterpaints and I'm playing with mine lol.

I water painted on some plain paper framed them in old frames I had laying around and used dry erase markers to draw on the glass of the frame. Makes for some easy artwork.

Here's what it looks like after the water paints.

And the magic comes with the dry erase marker! best part is if I mess up I just wipe it clean and start over.

It would be fun to water paint some simple shapes and go back and draw silly faces on them everyday and have the little one help you!

Simple free artwork for the home on a rainy afternoon :)

A desk update

Here's where we left off.

We finally got the shelves up!

And that's it. lol.

I still have to..
Sew cord covers
Paint shelves white
Decorate

The magazine files are up because that's how we gauged how high to put the second half shelf. The speakers may or may not stay..I'm still undecided. I'm just glad we finally got the shelves up! We had a deployment scare last week and I wasn't sure if I should be putting more stuff up on the walls if the hubby was going to be deployed. But we got the good news that he's not going so up went the shelves :)

Tips for the Home: Simple Fall Decor

Another mason jar decor idea. :) All you need are rocks, tea light candles, old mason jars, and a pumpkin or two. So simple, and would make such a cute center piece for thanksgiving. It would be even better if you could get your hands on some fall leaves and scatter them around the table as well.

Halloween Themed Gallery Wall

I printed out collected pictures of Halloween and changed out all our normal photos. After Halloween I just toss the prints and put back in our photos. A free and cute project to get the house ready for Halloween without spending money :)

Spooky Nails

Don't really get into the holiday spirit? Well maybe these will change your mind.

Hehehh okay they might not be spooky..but we are so ready for Halloween anyway! :)

Another good mail day

The August giveaways are definitely starting to trickle in now through both USPS and Fedex. I got another package today and a couple in the mail yesterday.

You can buy it here for $16.00 at Barney's New York. I tried it out on our feet, looks super cute..like a watermelon coral color.

And this showed up via USPS.

I haven't tried it out yet but it looks like all my other lipsticks. I tend to stick to lighter pinks.

...

Anyway I have won tons of stuff this year through giveaways...like this

ohhh and these...

and we can't forget this one from last week.

My makeup case is getting pretty full! & yeap all free just because I took the time to join those "useless" giveaways :)

Bossayy & Parker

We've had our pumpkins for a couple of weeks now, and it was about time we took some pictures with them!

(We just took a bath for Parker and he wasn't fully dry so he looks like a rat still lol.)

He's posing like a cat :)

There we go, a good shot of him.

But only one..because then Miniboss wanted to hold Parker.

She loves to hold him! After we were done taking pictures outside we ran back in to roll around in bed and let Parker finish drying off.

There, nice and fluffy again! Parker the one eared dog :) His ears are so big they flap around everywhere lol. Lazy Monday for us, hope everyone had a more productive day!
