Magazine files

Another cute office project! I knew I wanted magazine files to keep my papers organized and to stash my freshly printed coupons so I got some cheapie magazine files from IKEA this weekend. They were $1.99 for 5. They are fairly dinky but I knew I was gonna use them for storing coupons and they would get changed out when I could afford the nice wood ones.

I contemplated modgemod and fabric for a while but decided to just decorate them with simple lines. I printed out grey lines and taped them directly on the magazine files.

I guess I could always use scrapbook paper and make it better looking but it's a quick update and I like it :)

Not bad for a $1.99 project!

Pintucked Pillows

I originally got the idea from one of my favorite blogs, All Things Thrifty but it seems they took down the tutorial...It's a good thing I'm good at remembering and winging projects :) They did a throw pillow, and I wanted that look for my pillows, so I used pillow cases instead of throw pillows.

You will need
pillow case
thread and needles
small rubber bands
measuring tape
pencil

Before you start on your pillowcase, make sure the pillow case you are using is LARGER than your pillow! My pillows are queen sized and I used a king sized pillowcase.

Step 1. Turn your pillow case inside out and press. You want it straight and wrinkle free so you can mark your lines.

Step 2. Use a measuring tape and pencil, you will want to draw out lines like graphing paper. I made mines 4x4 boxes. See my drawing?! The red lines are how your supposed to mark your pillowcase.

Step 3. I went back and then marked the ones where I wanted to have the pin tucks. On my first line, I marked a circle at the 4 inch, 12 inch, and 20 inch marks. On my second line I marked the 8 inch and the 16 inch lines. I kept doing that till I had marked the entire pillow case. See my drawing?! The black dots are how you are supposed to mark your pillow case.

Step 4. Now using your small rubber bands you want to pinch the pillow case and wrap the rubber band on it where the black dots are. (Make sure you don't accidentally get both sides of the pillow case, just the one side you are working on ) Turn pillow right side out again and check and see if you need to move the rubber bands up or down a little more for deeper lines or lighter lines.

Step 5. Once you get it how you like it, take your needled and thread and push the rubber band down a little and sew right above the rubber band. Make sure you sew it well!!

Take off the rubber bands once you are done sewing and flip your pillow case right side out! WA LA! Fancy pin tucked look :)

Simple Shelving

The top of Minibosses's dresser was boring and I needed more space, and with the new Ikea 2012 catalog out, I was getting the organization itch. I figured two simple cheap shelves will do, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money.

We took a trip to Lowes and picked up 8 simple white brackets at .88 each in the closet organization area. And a 1x10x10 piece of wood for $12. I got them to cut the lumber down for me to 4, 30in shelves. I had my husband help me measure and put it up, since hes better at making things line up straight.

Here's the before.

We ended up using drywall screws to make sure it's sturdy.

Done. All straight and ready to be dressed up.

Now I have plenty of room for all her stuff!

There's a window to the left and so theres a huge glare in the photos :/

So for about $19 I have 4 "custom" shelves. I will be putting the other two shelves in the laundry space soon :) I know I want to paint the shelves, but i'm not sure what color yet.

Shes Bossy

Sometimes the Miniboss is too smart for her own good. She sees me put on makeup once in a blue moon and yet shes a pro at working that blush. She knows you have to make kissy faces to get the cheekbones just right lol.

I love that she lets me dress her up and tie up her hair and pretend to put makeup on her. My girly girl I've always wanted! ...Too bad most of the time she has an attitude and is super bossy for a girl who can't even talk yet! Preview of the teen years to come? Oh the price we pay for being a parent lol.

Check out that cheeser face cuz I finally let her play with my blush!

WF fair

We went to the fair in town for the first time this year. We used to go the the Colorado state fair every year but since moving to Texas I was prego and extremely sick one year and the next we had Lexi and she was sick :/ Well we finally made it this year!

Lexi was scared of everything..but we did manage to get her into the petting zoo and she got to touch baby animals :) ..Other than that the only person who had the most fun isn't even a person and didnt even actually get to go...Yea I'm talking about Parker.

We brought him home a turkey leg and yes he fully enjoyed it. He's the bestest dog ever and so he deserves spoiling sometimes. Plus it was funny watching him eat it since it's almost as big as he is!

Check out that Miniboss. She was mad and sweaty from the heat and the animals were pushy so she wasn't happy. We're gonna go to the Dallas fair in October, hopefully that goes better.
